Dubai Airshow

I visited the Dubai Airshow on the opening day. This is now the world's 3rd largest aviation trade show. After the first 2 days of this show over $80b worth of deals had been signed!

At the Execujet booth you can see a model of the Aerion supersonic business jet which is under development.

I'm at a nice hotel in Kuwait today. Here are a few scenes around town.

FourPoints

Here's a hotel I've been staying at this week. It's a Sheraton and is one of the newest hotels in Dubai. Nice rooms and roof-top pool.

Flight ops

Here's our plane on the ramp in Dubai. This morning I took a shot of the Palm Jumeirah Island as we were headed for Kuwait.

Dubai Creek

I found out that the best way to get cross the Dubai waterway is on the "abras", the traditional water taxis.

Company party

Last night Execujet threw a little party for all the employees here in Dubai. It was at the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach hotel. About 160 people came. What a feast!

Dhow cruise

Today I went for a day cruise with some friends on this old boat. This is in Oman, about a 2 hour drive from Dubai. We stopped at several points to go snorkeling, then they served us a nice meal of roasted barracuda. It would have gone smoothly except at one point we got marooned when the skipper let the boat drift aground on some rocks. We got rescued about an hour later when we were able to board another dhow that came along.

Friday worship

I have visited this church a couple of times and found everyone to be very friendly and encouraging. The land for the church was actually donated by the ruler of Dubai.

Sheik Zayed Road

I went walking up the street where my hotel is located and took a few photos.

I have some friends who live on the 43rd floor of this glass building.

Hotel

Here is what my hotel building looks like. There happens to be a lot of good food in the area. One of my favorite things about the hotel is the international breakfast buffet they serve every morning.

Cranes in Dubai

I've noticed that there are quite a number of cranes in Dubai. In fact, I read an estimate that there are around 30,000 construction cranes at work here! That is 24% of all the cranes in the world.

Crew training

Crew emergency training as required by UAE is done at the Emirates Airlines training center. I just finished all the classes today. It included dealing with emergencies in a cabin simulator and water evacuation practice.

In the background can be seen the simulator for the new Airbus 380. Emirates has an order for 55 of the new 380's, by far the largest order of any airline.

Execujet hangar

This is the Dubai headquarters for Execujet, located on the northeast side of Dubai international airport.

The hangar can accommodate several aircraft and there is always a flury of activity.

Just a block from the Execujet office is a large business park for the airport free-zone.

In the business park there is a nice food-court. This is a great place to network with businessmen from all over the world.

Shopping mall scenes

There are many amazing malls in Dubai. Here are a few scenes of one of them.

The Burj Dubai

Here's the world's tallest building as it looks today. It's currently at about 1700 feet, and still climbing!
